Follow up: Pregnancy can increase the size of existing thyroid nodules or cause new nodules. These nodules are mostly hyperplastic changes, ie, not cancerous. Imaging (ultrasound) surveillance would probably be adequate. Fine needle aspiration may be performed on nodules larger than 5 mm. They can predispose you to have nodular goiter later in life.
