A few more days: As your doctor told you, most infections like this are due to viruses -- and no virus responds to any antibiotic. So it isn't surprising that azithromycin (Z-pak) made no difference. Symptoms like this usually last 10-14 days. It's good your lungs are clear; your voice should return and your cough start improving soon. Recheck with your doctor if not better in a few more days.
