A member asked:

I went to the doctor 2 days ago for cough/cold- told it is viral & lungs clear. my throat was diagnosed as "red". it still hurts. should i go back?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Dr. can recheck: Throat symptoms can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or other virus (antibiotics usually not used), allergies or irritants, sinusitis, stomach reflux when asleep, etc. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep and review the story). A rapid strep throat test takes 5 minutes.
