Sleep apnea.: The most common cause of sleep apnea is simply being overweight, although other conditions can contribute as well, such as hypothyroidism or even anatomic issues in the throat. Usually the cause can be inferred and addressed. In those who are overweight, losing weight can help sleep apnea go away. In the meantime, it can be treated with a BiPAP mask.
