Not accurate: The presence of a mass in the parotid gland is suggestive of tumor. About 30% are malignant and on this basis the finding of a mass suggests need for parotidectomy. In actuality the operation is defining facial nerve and lifting gland off nerve so as not to damage it. Associated nodes frequently confirms Ca.
