Yes? =140+/90+: If systolic (top #) is repeatedly 140 or higher and/or diastolic (bottom #) 90 or higher, then have hypertension (HTN) or high blood pressure. Need to document BP readings from same machine/cuff (home, at store, etc.) w/date & time of day. Take list to your dr for review and discussion of benefit of medication vs likelihood of lifestyle changes lowering bp.

What is high BP?: A level of blood pressure that has been proven to shorten ones life and a level of BP that if treated prolongs ones life. The best is to be below120/80. However for treatment we use 135/85 at home as high. At your age above 135/85 at home would be consider HTN that needs to be lowered. Always try DASH diet first.
