HBP and Genetics: Essential HTN (cause unknown) Based on twin studies the degree of genetic determination of BP levels is 50-80%. A child with both parents HTN will have a higher BP by 6 months of age than one with neither parent with HTN. There are many inherited causes of HTN in which we know the genes that cause the increase on BP. All involve excess salt in the diet. Do a family tree for HTN-take to team.
