Hematoma: A hematoma after surgical procedure such as thyroidectomy is not considered a normal part of the healing process. It is considered a complication after surgery. Many hematomas need to be drained to avoid putting excessive pressure on the trachea. If you feel like it is expanding or enlarging , you do need to see your doctor as soon as possible or go to the ER.
