Rib cage swelling: There may be many different reasons why you have swelling around your rib cage. Possible causes include, but are not limited to: rib contusion, rib fracture, costochondritis, shingles, and intercostal neuritis. I would seek a formal evaluation from a qualified medical professional - especially if your swelling is associated with chest pain and/or associated skin lesions.
