A 61-year-old male asked:

i bet you cannot tell me one food i can eat that will have many calories to gain 4 pounds of weight with little or no sugar (need to watch glucose)?

More than one word: Peanut Butter, Almond Butter, Cashew Butter, etc..... All of these are high in calories and low in sugar. Eat them directly from the spoon throughout the course of the day or make a smoothie with unsweetened coconut milk, protein powder, several tablespoons of the nut butter of your choice and ice. An extra 500 calories a day will likely get you a one pound wt gain in a week.

It depends....: The frequency of bowel movements varies with age. In the first month, babies can have 4-7 stools per day, sometimes after every feed! at about one month, most infants will move their bowels about 1-4 times per day. By about 4 months, some breastfed babies will only need to have a bm once or twice a week! call your doctor if you are not sure.

Is excessive weight gain safe in pregnancy?

No: Of course it depends on how you define excess. Excess weight gain can increase chance of elevated blood pressure, gestational diabetes and large for gestational age infant. Gaining more than 40 lbs, frequently makes the slow metabolism of pregnancy a permanent thing, therefore, hard to get rid of the wt. Large infants more often result in c/s and shoulder dystocia, which can be dangerous.

Healthy variety: Babies are great at stealing the nutrients they need from you while you are pregnant. It is extremely difficult to cause malnutrition in the baby based on mom's diet. Food allergies are unlikely to cause problems, just make sure you are getting a good variety of proteins, whole grains, veggies and fruits from the foods you can eat.

What is the average weight gain at 18 weeks pregnant?

Average or healthy?: I think the correct question might be what is a healthy weight gain at 18 weeks. This depends on your starting weight. If you are overweight, then you should eat extremely healthy, limit portions, plenty of vegetables, exercise everyday. If you do this you may not gain any weight until after 5 months which is ok since you are doing healthy activities that will not hurt the baby.
