A member asked:

I got 3 hepb vacc. l8r a surface antigen & core antibody test both showed:non-reactive.b/c no antibodies present does this mean the vacc didn't take?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

That's good: Hepatitis B surface antigen negative usually means a person is not carrying the virus. Hepatitis B core antibody negative usually means a person did not catch the virus in the past. Neither test is about the vaccine. There usually is a third test, if needed, to see if a person is immune due to taking the vaccine: Hepatitis B surface antibody.
