A member asked:

My hep b surface antigen test was nonreactive and my hep b virus surface antibody test was 8.39 miu/ml equivocal (abnormal) do i have hepatitis b?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Ask the ordering Dr.: There are a whole bunch of hepatitis B tests, and their meanings vary depending on a person's situation and past test results. The only way to be sure is to ask the doctor who ordered the tests. If a person at low risk for HepB was vaccinated at birth and now gets a titer test, it usually is for HepBs Ab, to see if he needs booster shots. If his titer is low or equivocal, he may get booster shots.
