I have had a cold for the last week or so and today my wisdom tooth is starting to hurt. could the two be related? i visited my dentist just over a week ago and he didn't mention any issues.

Likely unrelated: You did not say if it was an upper or lower tooth that was hurting. Upper wisdom teeth can be very close to the maxillary sinuses so if you have a cold then it is possible for them to feel painful. Wisdom teeth can be difficult to see so you may want to head back to your dentist and ask for verification that your wisdom teeth are fine.
