Not directly...: Untreated sleep apnea can have many complications but it does not directly cause COPD. The obstruction that is talked about in sleep apnea is more of a mechanical obstruction of the upper airways related to redundant soft tissue. The airway obstruction in COPD is related to disease of the airways caused typically from smoking. Hope this helps!!!!
