Ankle Swelling: At your age you likely have some ligament damage from strains and sprains. Time to see your family doctor or and orthopedic surgeon to evaluate your ankle.

Stabilizing Effect.: You comment is that the swelling is in your ankle. I take it that it is does not extend to your foot. Usually, not only the ankle but also the foot, would be swollen if the veins were not working properly. It seems that swelling only in the ankle works to stabilize something in or around the ankle. This could be a minor injury that causes the ankle to weaken with just 5 minutes of walking.
