You : You should absolutely get an x-ray. The ankle is a very complicated joint, and the joint just beneath the ankle, the subtalar joint, is even more complicated. Ankle injuries can take the form of fractures of bone, cartilage, ligaments and tendons. It is entirely possible to have an injury, even a fracture, that is subtle enough for you to still walk and run on it, all while doing further damage, considering your level of activity. Please see either an orthopedic surgeon or a podiatrist as soon as possible, and in the meantime, refrain from basketball & running, and keep your walking to a minimum until you know exactly what's going on. I am attaching a link to an article showing how fractures are commonly misdiagnosed as sprains.
