A member asked:

Can a post-whipple oncology patient get pancreatitis causing inflammation (as per pet) and pain six months later?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Abnormal PET uptake: This can be caused by tumor recurrence(most likely) as well as Pancreatitis or any other inflammation. Pancreatitis will show increased level of Amylase in the blood. PET scan can not tell the difference between Inflammation and Cancer...both conditions show increased uptake but the CT part of this test(PET/CT) should help make the distinction(it will show if there is a growth/tumor present or no
