Weeks: Since the Whipple requires several anastomosis, there is the potential for slight and temporary leaks. These areas should be drained at the time of surgery and include suturing the common duct to small bowel, and implanting the transected body of pancreas into jejunum. These sites are well known to cause, even with good drainage, temporary leakage setting up inflammation seen on scan.
