What could cause a person with inflammation of the gallbladder (cholecystitis) also develop inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis)?

CBD Stone: Gallstones may exit the gallbladder and enter into the common bile duct(cbd), which can lead to obstruction of the liver and/or pancreas. Fortunately, these stones will pass spontaneously 25% of the time. Otherwise, it is necessary to extract these cbd stones endoscopically via ercp.

Passing a gallstone.: The same thing that causes cholecystitis can cause pancreatitis, gallstones. If the gallstone simply gets stuck at the exit site of the gallbladder, it will can get inflamed. However, if the gallstone passes out of the gallbladder and gets stuck in the connecting tube system, or ducts, then it can back up the pancreas and cause pancreatitis. The bile and pancreatic ducts join together at their end.
