A 17-year-old male asked:
is fructose included in daily sugar intake? if so why it's recommended to eat 2-3 portions of fruit a day if they have more sugar than we should eat?

Good question!: Yes, fructose is a sugar and you can eat too much fruit. But healthy eating doesn't have to avoid ALL sugars....in fact it is recommended that adult men may eat 9 teaspoons of sugar a day/women 5 tsp. Most of us get a lot more: one soda pop has 10 tsp! When you eat fruit you also get fiber and other important nutrients. 2-3 servings a day is ok:) Avoid added sugars incl high fructose corn syrup!

Different sugars: There are many different types of sugars. Fructose, is usually found in fruit. Table sugar is called Sucrose. The dietary recommendations differentiate added sugar (usually sucrose) from the sugar naturally found in foods, like fruit and even milk (lactose). Different sugars are processed in the body differently and are considered to pose different risks to your health.
