Clears LDL Particles: Ldl is low density lipoprotein, a particle that carries cholesterol in the blood. If LDL particles are increased (high LDL particle number) more particles enter the artery wall and increase cardiovascular disease (cvd) risk. Ldl receptors (ldlr) bind and remove LDL particles from the blood. Low ldlr increases cvd risk. Statin drugs increase ldlr causing lower LDL levels and decreased cvd risk.
