The edge of the: Nail that was in growing gets removed, a chemical burns the root. The part that was removed should not grow back. The remainder of the nail does grow. I am not following when you say something looks detached....are you referring to the part that remained ? The large piece of nail that was not removed?

Redetached: Relax. More than likely when the side of the nail was removed, Some of the main part of the nail was also lifted. This can make the nail look loose or detached, The nail should grow normally. Give it some time to reattach or regrow.
