Fungal vs trauma: During the removal of the nail, you may have developed either a fungal infection in the nail or there may have been permanent damage to the nai root which is very sensitive. A culture of the nail will reveal a fungal infection which is treatable. If no fungus, then more than likely trauma which is only treatable with permanent nail removal. A podiatrist could assist with that procedure.
