Aging can be normal: By age 85 yrs, about 50% of aging adults possess relatively normal cognitive function. But many of the rest have Alzheimer's disease, brain damage from strokes or a mix of both. Some patients have reversible vitamin deficiencies or thyroid problems. Less common are Parkinsonian dementias or Lewy Body disorders.
