A member asked:

If tegretol lowers the level of celexa would not it lower the dose of lexapro (escitalopram)....and by how much.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The same impact: Actual impact not quantitatively predictable. The manufacturer of both citalopram and escitalopram did not feel the impact to be significant. Tegretol can increase the clearance of both by inducing the enzyme CYP450 3A4. If you are experiencing increased symptoms your caregiver should be alerted so that you can discuss dose adjustments.
