As suspected gp found nothing on exam for tinnitus. prefer scientific methods, but for sth like tinnitus, if patting my head helps a little, so be it.

Try an ENT specialis: I'm unsure what the apparent typo "but for sth like tinnitus", but the "patting my head helps" sounds to me like there is fluid in your ears. If it is behind the eardrum, then decongestants MIGHT help, but I'd suggest you see an Ear Nose Throat specialist. I'm not sure what the problem is, but sometimes tubes in the eardrums help similar problems and an ENT doc would be the one to do that surgery.

For last 3 weeks, I've had a fluttering sound in my right ear which comes and goes. It is becoming more frequent though. My GP said the ear looks ok and he doesn't know what could cause this. I don't have any other symptoms apart from tinnitus in that ear
