A member asked:

Is it a cure for aids?

Not yet: No cure for aids exists so far. With proper treatments, however, aids can be well controlled and you can live with for many years (though on average, much less than a normal life span). One should avoid unprotected sex especially between men and IV drug use, as those are two biggest avoidable risk factors.

No: No cure, but treatment can suppress the infection and let you live a normal life, or close to it. The earlier you are diagnosed and sooner you start treatment, the better.

No cure yet: It's not surprising that there's no cure yet. Hiv is a very complex virus that inserts its own dna into human dna. Even if you eliminate the circulating virus, there's still viral dna that can reactivate. It's also important to note that in the history of medicine, we have cured only one viral disease--hepatitis c--and only very recently. There is hope for a cure, but it won't happen soon.
