Meat and fiber: A low carb diet basically focuses on meat (hopefully lean protein like chicken or pork) with high fiber, low starch vegetables like leafy greens. Avoid grains and avoid root vegetables, as these are high in starch. Of course, avoid sugary snacks, as well.

Balanced diet: For weight control and health, cut out sweets + sugary beverages, and limit starches. Starches are white foods (white rice, bread, pasta, potatoes) that are very caloric without much nutritional value, + too easy to overeat. Healthier carbs are vegetables, fruits + whole grains + most doctors recommend you make those the center of ur diet along with lowfat dairy, nuts, fish, and some lean meat.

Avoid simple sugars: Avoid soft drinks, table sugar, bread, pasta, starches, ice cream, anything with high fructose corn syrup. Eat vegetables, salads, beans, whole fruits with low sugar contents, chicken, fish and lean meat. Get in the habit to look at the label and see how much carbohydrates is in ( high fructose corn is in ketchup, salad dressings, bread, coated french fries...).
A 33-year-old member asked:

Can the low carb diet work?

Sure, but...: Those no carb diets all work by the same mechanism every diet on earth works by: less calories in. The key is that if you eat enough calories to gain weight but do it from fats and protein alone, it'll make you sick, so most people end up eating substantially less. Try it and see (myfitnesspal is a great app for this). Every 3500 cal missed (or so), another pound will fall off.
