Anxiolytic: Xanax (alprazolam) is a brand of Alprazolam which is a short-acting benzodiazepine, all of which are very addictive, none less than others. Others in family are Ativan & valium among many. Any of the ssris such as paroxetine & sertraline can serve as anxiolytics w/less addictive potential than benzodiazepines. You'll probably need to wean off your xanax (alprazolam). Talk to your family doc about your concerns.
