Think of it this way: Losing weight is about calorie intake (consuming food) being less than your calorie expenditure (resting metabolism, physical activity). So, let's say you decide to lose a pound a week. You would need to cut 500calories/day. You could 500 calories from your diet, or you could cut 250 from your diet and burn 250 by exercise-or some combination of the two. That's why it's easier to combine both.
