even tho my hypothyroidism is contolled by synthroid (thyroxine) can it still cause low ferritin?

Low ferritin: I don't think so. If your hypothyroidism is controlled with synthroid (thyroxine) then you are essentially normal from a thyroid point of view. Need to look for other causes.

No connection : Hypothyroidism does not cause low ferritin.
