Count carbohydrates: The whole "calorie count" approach to eating is not useful. A calorie is a measure of heat when something is burned. Our bodies do burn carbohydrates for energy, but protein and fats have many important functions and so you shouldn't limit them. Most people don't need more than 100 grams of carbs/day (average soda has 35 gm). Check out a book called "why we get fat". It gives you good info.
