Protein Plus Calorie: If your total calorie expenditure is more than your calorie input, then you could be expected to lose weight by 3500 Cal per pound; similarly the other way.To build muscle you need to take in excess protein to repair the muscles you are thrashing when you work out. It's hard to say how much but probably an extra 10-20 grams a day as a rough estimate;depends on your body habitus and muscle exertion
