Sprain: The damage does not have to be permanent after a sprain. Improvement of your symptoms may be helped by physiotherapy, time and bracing.

Careful: Really bad sprains almost always need some type of physical therapy in order to get back to 100%. Otherwise, chronic pain ensues. It is not just about healing the ligaments--it's the nerve fibers as well that give you your proprioception. Start with rice therapy (rest, ice, compression with an ace wrap, and elevation). See a podiatrist and get an x ray to make sure there is no fracture.

Let me help: Sprain and re-sprain could leave some damage to the ligament of the joint and also make the healing process take longer time. The advise to treat the sprain correctly from the first time..
