To be certain, x-ray: Pain, swelling, lack of motion, and/ or tenderness to touch following an injury could indicate fracture, but deformity is a sure sign if the area is away from a joint. If near a joint deformity could mean fracture or dislocaiton. The best way to know for sure is to have an x-ray.
