It would help: Even though it may hurt when you touch the abscess tooth, keeping it clean would help to drain the infection and thus providing short relief. You should schedule with your dentist to eliminate the cause of the abscessed tooth (root canal and fix occlusion) to prevent it from coming back and keep the destruction of surrounding tissue to be minimal.
