LEt me explain: The prepattelar and pretibial edema are located in front of the knee cap. The cause of those are many reasons. 1-truma (injury) could be minor but recurrent). 2-bursistis in the front of the knee.

Common finding: It means there is some fluid in the tissues along the front of your knee. It can be caused be being on your knees a lot. Plumbers, carpet layers, house cleaners, etc. But i also see it not uncommonly as just an incidental finding and it doesn't necessarily mean much.

Not uncommon: Edema in these locations can be caused by kneeling or soft tissue bruising. It is usually not serious all by itself. If accompanied by a fluid collection, then it can mean bursitis, hematoma or infection.
