A member asked:

What effects does long-term, untreated edema have on your body? i've had some edema for years but it suddenly became worse recently...

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Signs and symptoms: Edema is a physical sign of fluid accumulation in soft tissues. Where it occurs and to what degree will depend upon the underlying cause. It may be congestive heart failure, venous insufficiency, renal failure or a dozen or more other diagnoses. Without knowing what you have recommend seeing a doctor and having this looked into. Good luck.
