Depends: This is why gastroenterologists spend multiple years training after medical school. To help them learn how to tell what is required for each individual patient. Every clinical situation is different and sometimes the approaches are different for individual doctors. Discuss this with the endoscopist.

May not need a scope: If you had a scope 2 years ago you may not need another one at this time. Are you having pain, rectal bleeding?? Did they see diverticulosis on you initial scope? Are they saying you need another scope?
