Dr. Dinh Bui answered

Temporary effect: Lateral expansion lead to tipping of the posterior teeth buccally and when holding over times with a transplantable arch will produce some translational movement. As a result, occlusal interference may be introduced temporarily which may lead to jaw muscle spasm.
