Pins and needles: Paresthesia is a symptom, not a disease. In most patients it is described as a pins and needles sensation or burning. Some of the more common causes are diabetes mellitus, carpal tunnel syndrome, lyme disease, hypothyroidism, low calcium count, vitamin B12 deficiency, alcohol abuse, and pinched nerves.
