Usually: the doctor will use medications that open or shrink the prostate to see if that produces satisfactory results. If not other options exist including surgery to open the prostate channel.

Here are some ...: The bottom line of caring for BPH is how he may feel about his urination after understanding and adjusting how he "should" expect in voiding, and if he can empty bladder under medical Rx to relax and shrink prostate urethra. If not enough to improve symptoms and protect the bladder, surgery would be needed, but nowadays, laser procedure is the choice as compared to traditional TURP...
