Bruising does grow: After a fracture there shows up color of black and blue -this color acan increase over the next few days which is indicative of a fracture. If the color is red and growing please go see a doctor.

Tak a break: It is not that unususal for the true extent of the bruise to take several days to reveal itself. Blood and fluid escapes from broken blood vessels and leaks under the skin. In time this fluid shows up as an extended discoloration or bruise. Heat can speed the dissolution of the trapped fluid.
