PCP evaluation: First I would get evaluated by your PCP. Let him/her evaluate you. They may be able to take care of this situation for you. If not he/she will know which specialist to refer you for proper care.

Get Cracking.: Pulling the nail off, seems a bit radical for the initial treatment of the problem. Injuries like yours can sometimes damage the nail root and cause either permanent or temporary nail problems. It may be too early to tell. A more realistic approach would be a combination of trimming, sanding, tapping or even using super glue to reduce the crack. Of course, a visit to a foot specialist is wise too.
