Risk-benefit: Every medicine has side effects, some potentially worrisome. You (+/- your dr) must weigh the risks/benefits of treatment vs non-treatment. In general Prilosec is safe for most people in limited duration use (1-3 months), and is all they need to resolve their problem. Long-term use must be done knowingly and w/eye out for chronic effects.

Yes: In general, Prilosec has been used for numerous years. As with many medications, there are numerous potential adverse effects. However, "proton-pump inhibitors"/ppi's have been studied and shown to be generally safe to use. Most adverse effects with Prilosec are not the result of short term use. It is important for you to discuss all your medications with your personal physician.
