A member asked:

My endoscopy results came up normal. should i just take omeprazole whenever my gerd flares up or just treat it naturally? is omeprazole bad over time?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Use it sparingly: Omeprazole is safe used occasionally but it is associated with problems when taken long term. This type of drug is associated with risks of pneumonia, malabsorption of nutrients and bone density loss. If you can figure out natural ways to avoid the reflux it would be best. If you only use the omeprazole occasionally it should be fine.
