No.: "sludge" is seen on ultrasound. The test you are having, a hida scan, watches the gall bladder empty. It's not as accurate as ultrasound for seeing fine details like sludge, but it sees if you have pain during the test, and the "ejection fraction" is low, it is abnormal, and usually surgery is recommended.

No and maybe: You will likely have a hida scan tomorrow, and sludge is not evident on this type of study, only on imaging studies like ct, ultrasound, mri. If you have sludge already diagnosed, your study may be normal. If the gallbladder is full of sludge, then the hida will be abnormal, as the radiotracer used in this nuclear medicine study cannot get into the gallbladder.

Sludge not seen: Gall bladder sludge is seen on ultrasound exam. The nuclear medicine nuclear scan relates how well gall bladder is functioning. Hid by how well it contracts. Sludge in gall bladder can have either normal or abnormal study. The scan also demonstrate relative function of liver and abnormalities in common bile duct. In adults most clinicians use above 35% as normal gb ejectin value.
