Difficulties: Complex ptsd may leave one with difficulties trusting others, tumultuous interactions, and attempts to avoid re-experiencing trauma by abusing substances, etc. There can be challenges with diagnoses. Many people with "borderline" characteristics also have histories of childhood trauma. Recovery from complex ptsd may require similar work as with bpd, due to the developmental issues involved.

Accurate diagnosis: Formal psychological testing may help to tease apart personality characteristics from axis i disorders. If you are concerned that you have been misdiagnosed, you might consider asking your provider about psychological testing.
