Ask the: provider who made the diagnosis which criteria were met. Is "pdoc" used as an abbreviation for psychiatrist or primary care physician? It would be best if the diagnosis was made by a psychiatrist or psychologist who has done a careful assessment using DSM criteria.

Opinions vary: Sometimes psychotherapists use BPD to describe patients who are difficult for them to work with. It can actually be true if several agree but not if they are alone in this view. This may just be a bad match - find another who you can relate to better. Personality diagnoses are no more than opinions based on hx and experience - there's no lab test. Your Dx list can appear like BPD. Try another Dr.

If you don't have confidence in your Psychiatrist see another for a 2nd opinion. Your self-report of your symptoms along with observations of people who care about you are of utmost importance. Those symptoms are carefully analyzed to find the correct diagnosis which isn't always obvious. Have a physical exam to rule out underlying illness. Consult with a Clinical Psychologist for Psychotherapy.
