Infection: It sounds like you have a gum irritation, gum abscess, or possibly a root canal problem. Visit your dentist asap for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

See a dentist.: Painful gums can be several things at your age. Partial list: if the painful gum is behind your last tooth on either side, top or bottom jaw, it can be an erupting wisdom tooth. It can be an abcess (infection) of either the gum or the nerve in a tooth. It can be a foreign object caught under the gum, like a popcorn hull. You need to see a dentist for proper examination and diagnosis. Don't wait.
